Interaction on Samba's Biodiversity, Cultural Heritage held | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 18: Eco Club Govt. Model Higher Secondary School Ramgarh, Samba, and Himalayan Heritage Foundation organized an interaction on " Biodiversity and Cultural Heritage of Samba".The event was organized to sensitize the students of various streams about the importance of biodiversity and cultural moorings of the Samba district. Om Prakash Sharma "Vidyarthi", IFS, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, and Sahitya Akademi the awardee was the Chief Guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion he said," Biodiversity must be understood in terms of its value for the whole ecosystem. If we damage any part of this ecosystem then it will lead to rupture of the entire well-being of all living beings. The need is to create awareness about the age-old techniques that have stood the test of time and enabled us to face the vicious challenges of pollution. Students must be encouraged to learn about the biodiversity in local languages and teachers must make innovation sin language to present these concepts in vernacular equivalents." Dr.Mahesh Kaul, Chairman, Himalayan Heritage Foundation while speaking on the occasion said," Place consciousness and aesthetics play a pivotal role in defining the identity of the place. Biodiversity must be seen as integral to the cultural heritage. It cant exist in isolation. Samba district of the Jammu region has a rich cultural diversity that gives an identity to its people. The need is to sensitize the students and society about sustainable development by integrating this richness with tourism development with a focus on conservation and preservation. To promote tourism 35 projects have to be incorporated in Externally Aided Projects(EAP) by the administration and Samba and Reasi Districts have been identified to identify suitable land for water Parks. To make this comprehensive and sustainable cultural heritage of Samba that includes Samba Fort and other tangible and intangible heritage assets must be incorporated to create job opportunities and conservation policies for heritage management in collaboration with tourism professionals to bring Samba on the national tourist map of India and the world." Preeti Rathore,District Nodal Officer, Eco Club,Samba District while speaking on the occasion created awareness among the students regarding the lemongrass with a practical demonstration. Dr.Nidhi Anand, Zonal Nodal Officer, Ramgarh Zone Govt was the convenor of the interaction. The event was presided over by Ashwani Kumar, Principal, Govt. Model Higher Secondary School Samba. Students from various schools of Samba gave their presentations on the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Samba. Prizes and certificates were distributed among the students on the occasion. The interaction was attended by teachers from various schools, students, and members of civil society. The proceedings of the day-long interaction were ably conducted by Ravin Raina. |
