Govt must look into Jammu’s sentiments: Nirmal Singh | No holiday on Sept 23: | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 18: Amid brewing anger among residents of Jammu against the decision of the J&K government not to declare September 23 as a public holiday, former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Dr. Nirmal Singh on Saturday admitted that this issue attached with the sentiments of people. “In Jammu sentiment of people attached with this issue. I think the government of Jammu and Kashmir should keep in mind this sentiment”, Dr. Singh told The Early Times while supporting the demand of declaring September 23 as a public holiday. When his attention was drawn towards the announcement of Yuva Rajput Sabha to launch a mass agitation against the decision of the J&K government, Dr. Singh argued that in a democracy everybody has the right to raise demands. BJP stalwart, however, made it clear that by declaring gazetted holiday on October 26, the Jammu and Kashmir government has given a befitting tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh, who had signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947, to merge the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir with Indian Union. “Holiday on October 26 is also in honour of Maharaja Hari Singh”, he observed and said that declaring a public holiday on October 26 the J&K government has given a message at the national and international level. “Not only the J&K government has declared holiday on October 26 but it also has cancelled public holidays on July 13 and the birthday of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah”, he pointed out, adding, “Keeping in view the politics of Jammu and Kashmir it was very important decision to cancel holidays on these two days”. |
