Govt Degree College Darhal Celebrates "World Arabic Day"

JAMMU, Dec 18: Department of Arabic Govt. Degree College Darhal celebrated "World Arabic Day" by organizing a Seminar on the theme "Importance of Arabic Language".
Principal of the college Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia congratulated the Arabic Department for organizing a Seminar on the importance of Arabic language and also providing a golden opportunity to the students of Arabic subject to know more about the importance of Arabic. He said that Arabic is a sacred language because it is a language of Holy Quran and about 425 million speakers are there in the world. He told that On December 18, 1973, Arabic officially became the sixth official language of the United Nations which already have French, English, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese. He also told that international day of celebration was set by United Nations for each official language with a goal to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote equal use of all six languages throughout the organisation. He also talked about the importance of Arabic Language in Government and Private Sector. He said that hundreds of Universities and Colleges in India are teaching this subject. He particularly mentioned about JNU, Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University, BHU, Kashmir University and Baba Ghulam Shah Badsha University Rajouri where this subject is being taught at Undergraduate, Post -graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D level. He also told about the employment opportunities which are available to Arabic experts in different industries such as oil, travel, finance and translation. He also talked about the introduction of Arabic Language in Civil Services Examination in 1963. Earlier in his welcome address Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi HOD Arabic Department gave a detail of the importance of Arabic language. He told that Arabic is a fascinating language and its use in architecture, poetry, and philosophy is entirely aesthetic. He told that historically, the Arabic language has contributed immensely to the promotion of Greek and Roman philosophies and sciences by spreading it to the European Renaissance. Ancient Arabic manuscripts provide vital information on many historical incidents. He also recited some beautiful Arabic Quotes in his highly informative deliberations. He told that the college has maximum number of students studying Arabic subject and this seminar will act as a source of motivation and tremendous knowledge for them. Main highlight of the Seminar was presentations by the students of the college. Sabia Naseem of Sem-III presented a Naat, Mohd. Arif of Sem-III presented a Tilawat, Somia Jabeer of Sem-III, Asif Chowdhary of Sem-III and Waqar Ahmad of Sem-I spoke on the "Importance of Arabic Language". The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Riaz HOD Persian. Others present on the occasion were Dr. Riaz, Dr. Javaid Ahmad Mir, Ms. Maawish, Ms. Monika and Mr. Safeer. The programme was attended by a large number of students of the college of Sem-I, Sem-III and Sem-V.
