Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 18: A symposium on Literary Elements in Dogri Folk Literature was organized by Sahitya Akademi New Delhi at Govt. Degree College Majalta, Dist. Udhampur, J&K in collaboration with the said Degree College.
The daylong symposium was presided over by an eminent Dogri author and Dogri Folk Lierature Expert, Prakash Premi with Dr. B.B.Anand, Principal Degree College Majalta as Chief Guest at the inaugural session. Key note address was delivered by Dr. Gian Singh, a Folklorist and Dogri Advisory Board Member.
The inaugural address was delivered by Darshan Darshi (D.K.Vaid), Convener Dogri Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. He also welcomed the participants and eminent writers present in the function along with faculty and students of the college. It is very interesting and engaging to see that Dogri folklore which generally like all other Lok Sahitya, is attributed to unlettered rural folks for its often impromptu creation and propagation only by mouth, does reflect immense literary richness and depth and exhibits many of those literary devices which were coined much later by the protagonists of written literature, he said. He also hoped that the symposium would generate a new interest among the college goers to understand the potential and importance of Dogri folklore in their wider understanding and learning of Dogri language and literature. Inaugural session was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Suresh Sharma, Asstt. Professor Dogri.
The first paper reading session was devoted to subjects; Literary Elements in Dogri Folk Songs and Literary Elements in Dogri Proverbs & Idioms (Kahabtaan aur Muhabaray). Well researched papers on the two topics were read out respectively by Jagdeep Dubey and Yash Pal Nirmal and the speakers aroused lot of interest amongst the audience. This session was presided over by noted Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Literary Critique Mohan Singh. Second paper reading session was presided over by Shiv Dev Sushil, a Poet and Short Story Writer of eminence. In this session Tarseem Raina discussed at length, the literary element in Dogri Folk Tales, whereas Ranbir Singh Chib presented his paper on Folk Ballads by tracing out literary elements in them. The audience interacted with all the four paper readers at the end of the second paper session.
The symposium was followed by a Dogri Poetry session, where established and upcoming poets shared the same platform and recited their new compositions to immense delight of the audience. Besides college teachers and students, a good number of locals were also present. This Kavi Goshti was presided over by prominent litterateur and gazal poet Vijay Verma and the session was compered by a popular young awarded poet Rajinder Ranja.
