Raman Suri greets Hindu pilgrims for Shri Katasraj Dham Yatra, pitches for restoration of Pak's religious places | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: While extending his greetings to Hindu pilgrims taking up the long-awaited Shri Katasraj Dham Yatra after a gap of two years, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri today said that all temples in Pakistan should be restored to their lost glory so that the sanctity of religious places is maintained and those visiting the temples can pay obeisance in a revered manner. Eighty-seven Hindu pilgrims are on a pilgrimage to Chakwal in Pakistan, where the group of temples of Katasraj is located. Raman Suri said that due to pandemic, this routine pilgrimage was put on hold but now that the situation across the globe has improved, the pilgrims are able to carry out their yatra this year. Very recently, a group of 44 Indian pilgrims also had returned from Pakistan after participating in the celebrations of the 312th birth anniversary of Shiv Avtari Satguru Sant Shadaram Sahib at Sukkur in Sindh province from 15th to 21st December 2021. This year, the pilgrims will be celebrating Margashirsha Purnima at the Shri Katasraj cluster of temples. Raman Suri said that Katasraj Temple, surrounded by a pond, is considered sacred by Hindus, and every year this pilgrimage is performed. He said that Pakistan must also restore all other Hindu and Jain temples besides Sikh Gurudwaras located in Sialkot and other areas including Lahore so that pilgrims can pay their obeisance. He said that there are innumerable people in India who intend to visit their ancestral religious places but the same are in dilapidated condition. He hoped that elaborate arrangements have been made for the pilgrims at Katasraj and the temple stands restored to its glory. According to Puranas, the pond of Katasraj Temple is said to have been created from the teardrops of Shiva after he wandered the Earth inconsolable after the death of his wife Sati. Built-in an area of over two kanals, the pond had dried up and even encroached upon but it is believed that the same stands restored now. Indian Sikh and Hindu pilgrims visit Pakistan under the Bilateral Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974 to participate in religious festivals and events every year. Raman Suri said that there are many other temples in Pakistan that had been craving for restoration and have been encroached upon. He hoped that the same will be restored to their lost glory and opened up to pilgrims soon. |
