Displaced Kashmiri Sikh Conference condemns “sacrilegious” acts | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 19: Displaced Kashmiri Sikhs Conference president today convened a meeting of its functionaries, workers and civil society people. The meeting was chaired by S.Harmohinder Singh While talking with reporters. Singh strongly criticized the sacrilegious act by a young man at Sanctum, Darbar Sahib, Amritsar on Saturday evening when religious sermons were being recited by Granthi Sahiban. That nefarious Act was seen by thousands of devotees living on television. A pall of gloom descended upon the Sikhs all over India and the world. The culprit was immediately overpowered by Sikh priests and other Granthis (priests), stopped him from inflicting injuries with a sword to Sikh priests who were present there, and handed over to watch and ward staff of Darbar Sahib. The pilgrims became furious, over the shameful and disrespectful action of sacrilege, and thrashed him resulting in his death. S. Harmohinder Singh has cautioned the rank and file of the country and Sikhs in particular not to fall prey to the communal forces and some secret agencies who are hell-bent upon creating a wedge between different communities. These Agencies were active in the 1980s in Punjab when the situation went out of control and thousands of beleaguered Punjabis lost their lives. There was a severe uprising all over there, even religious places were desecrated. Sikhs were the worst victim of violence and repressive measures were taken against them. “Time and again such types of methods are being adopted to malign the image of Sikhs and their places of worship are desecrated under a deep-rooted conspiracy and intrigue. Sikhs should remain vigilant against these unscrupulous elements, Punjab and Central government must take the cognizance of the day-to-day sacrilegious, disrespectful actions in Sikh Gurdwaras,” reads the statement. Singh warned the government if precautionary measures will not be taken seriously and meticulously, the era of 1982-84 is not far away now. There is every apprehension of the situation which may take an ugly turn, then again innocents will lose their lives. Government should bridle these communal forces with an iron hand as soon as possible. S.Harmohinder Singh severely condemned Sunday’s other sacrilegious act in Gurudwara at Kapurthala district of Punjab state where a young man tried to remove Kesari Nishan ( Sikh Gurdwara flag). That culprit succeeded in removing the flag but the Sikh congregation took serious note of that and a large gathering assembled there and in a fit of rage people killed him there. “We do not endorse the killing of anybody but the administration and police absolve the culprits after arrests which shatters the confidence of people and justice is not properly given tantamount to knowing the state for Sikhs,” he said. In the end, S.Harmohinder Singh appeals the S.G.P.C, Amritsar to restrict the entry of pilgrims, their entry should be screened thoroughly, if any suspicious person appears there, he must be questioned and later handed over to police. Otherwise, the heavy rush of pilgrims may cause such type of occurrences again with the active help of secret agencies. |
