CFPC seeks revival of glory of Dogra Warriors' valour
12/27/2021 10:33:12 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 27: The Citizens' Forum for Public Concerns (cfpc) Jammu has urged the J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to initiate measures to revive the glory of the valour of Dogra Warriors and honour them.
In a representation sent to the LG, its Convener K B Jandial said that it was unfortunate that the nation had forgotten the Dogra Warriors and their unmatched valour which could have been the beacon light for the present and the future generations to emulate their traits and geared up for sacrifices for Jammu & Kashmir and India.
The CFPC pointed out that Jammu had been a land of Dogra Warriors and the contemporary history was replete with the saga of their valour. They had created a niche in annals of the history of battles for their valour and earned a reputation of being the bravest of brave warriors in the military history of India. Maharaja Gulab Singh, a great warrior himself and founder of the undivided State of Jammu and Kashmir is credited with extending the boundaries of J&K to over 2.8 million sq miles that once had four major provinces - Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit Baltistan.
The CFPC lamented that despite their unprecedented valour and huge contributions in building Dogra Raj and Empire, they all are now forgotten even though they are part of Dogra identity. The present generation does not know anything about them and their valour that could have inspired them. Now, when we are celebrating India's 75th year of Independence as Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, no celebration would complete without reviving their legacy, remembering them and doing justice to their valour and contributions.
The Forum urged the LG to constitute an expert committee of Jammu historians to dig out the historical record and prepare a comprehensive list of all these Dogra warriors with an authentic account of contributions of each of them.
The CFPC also urged the LG to set up a befitting War Memorial, name the prominent public institutions after them at least in their native places, prepare documentaries, booklets on their valour and include saga of some of the great warriors in the School textbooks so that their valour and sacrifices are carried forward to the present and next generations.
