POONCH, Dec 27: A man from tehsil Mendhar in district Poonch has received an electricity bill of Rs 1,02920 despite the fact that he has not even consumed any power.
The aggrieved man Mohammad Tazeem, resident of Ari, has lived his life in darkness without electricity. However, he has got an electricity bill in lakhs from the Power Development Department Poonch.
While talking to the media, Tazeem said that he has been receiving electricity bills from PDD without power connection for the last thirteen years. "I submitted several applications in this regard to the AEE, XEn demanding cancellation of the electricity connection, which I have not availed but despite repeated requests to the concerned officials nobody listened to me as a result I am getting hefty bills," he alleged.
He further informed that the concerned Sarpanch also came to help him and asked the department that he has not been using any power supply as he has no connection but except empty assurances that connection will be cut nothing has been done till date to address his grievance.
"There are several instances where people have been enjoying power supply without power connections in his area but it is very shocking that PDD has been sending electricity bills to those who have not been getting power supply," he said.
A neighbour of Tazeem came forward in his support and confirmed that the aggrieved poor man has no electricity in his house. "He has been living just 100 meters of distance from my house and I have never seen electricity in his house as no electricity poles have been installed near his house. He is very poor and hardly runs his life but it was shocking to see that PDD has been sending him electricity bills of more than lakhs and the department has not been rectifying the mistake," he said.
Meanwhile, Tazeem met SDM Mendhar and narrated his grievance along with electricity bills. The SDM assured that inquiry will be held to ascertain the facts.
