Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 30: National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday rejected the Special Investigation (SIT) Teams report in Hyderpora gunfight termed it "wrong" and demanded a judicial probe into the whole incident to bring justice. Abdullah said he believes the report is wrong.
"The police have done it to save themselves. Police killed them and there is no doubt about it. I believe a judicial inquiry should be held," Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar.
"Police should not do such work which would hurt the sentiments of the people," he said. Abdullah said this a day after J&K police Special Investigation Team probing the Hyderpora encounter warned political leaders of 'penal' action against 'speculative statements'. The Police said such "speculative" statements from the political leaders have a tendency to create provocation, rumour, fear and alarm among the general masses or particular section of society. Politicians have hit out at the police diktat.
The J&K Police SIT has given a clean chit to forces and said while the building owner Altaf Bhat died in crossfire after he was used as a human shield and another Dr Mudassir Gul was killed by a terrorit. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said bullying us into silence by 'penal action' warnings wont work "Remarks on the SIT probe by different political parties aren't mere speculation. They are grounded in facts. The administration's aversion & discomfort with truth coming to the fore is well known. Bullying us into silence by 'penal action' warnings wont work," she said. In a question about the Delimitation report, Dr Abdullah said that "we have compiled our report which would be submitted before the commission and would be put before the public soon". However, he refused to divulge anything about the report. "Let it be submitted, you will come to know what we have said", he added. In regard to the Real Estate Summit, Dr Abdullah said "let the world react it first"…"what would I say about it", he added.
