Jammu, Dec 31: Department of Computer Applications, GDC RS Pura under the aegis of 'Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C) Scheme ', 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav' and guidance of the Principal of the college, Prof. Sunil Uppal organized a student webinar on "Cyber Crime Awareness" on 31-12-2021.The online session began with a welcome address by Asst. Prof. Neha Jain, Head, Department of Computer Applications of the college. The revered Principal of the college, Prof. Sunil Uppal, briefed the audience about the importance of the theme of the lectures and its relevance in today's digital era. He said that Cybercrime is a crime that involves the use of computer devices and the Internet.
These crimes can be committed against an individual, a group of people, the government, and private organizations. Usually, these are intended to harm someone’s reputation, cause physical or mental harm or benefit from them, for example, gaining monetary benefits, spreading hate and terror etc. Cybercrimes are increasingly becoming social engineering, where cybercriminals invest resources and time to gain knowledge about technical and scientific aspects of cyber security with an aim to breach them.
Students of the department namely Neha, Aman, Raman, Vishal, Bharti, Preeti, and Rahul presented their talk on Cyber Awareness. The speakers appraised the audience about various malicious cyber crimes like cyberstalking, cyber flashing, cyber obscenity, juice jacking, phishing attacks, financial fraud etc. Speakers also made aware the audience of the means by which the netizens can save themselves from falling prey to the fraudsters through digital means.
The students and staff keenly listened to the speakers. Asst. Prof. Amit Singh concluded the event by summarizing the opinions put forward by the speakers. He said that Cyber Crime and cyber law awareness is very important because it touches almost all aspects of transactions and activities involving the internet, the World Wide Web, and cyberspace.
