JKNPP to hold protests outside DC, EC offices in Delhi: Harsh Dev
1/2/2022 10:29:55 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 2: Seeking allocation of Assembly seats between Jammu and Kashmir regions on 50:50 basis, creation of separate Assembly constituency for Lander, Bhamag, Moungri areas compromising Bhamag belt of District Udhampur and holding of early elections in J&K, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP today announced to hold protests in New Delhi outside the offices of Delimitation commission and Election commission in case these demands were not addressed at the earliest.
Seeking justice to the hitherto deprived Jammu region in the ongoing process of delimitation of assembly constituencies, Harsh Dev Singh said that nothing short of equal seats for the region is acceptable. He said that the meeting of Delimitation Commission with associate members held on December 20 was expected to end all political bias against Jammu regions by ensuring parity of assembly seats between the two province. “The proposed allocation of 43 seats to Jammu region as against 47 for Kashmir had once again belied the expectations of Jammu region and exposed BJP for its duplicity and double standard”, he said. Singh further sought allocation of at least 5 assembly seats to district Udhampur including a separate Assembly constituency for Pancheri, Lander, Bhamag area so as to satisfy the urges of people inhabiting this remotest belt. The public had been assured umpteen times of a separate assembly for Bhamag belt which however was declined at the last moment for reasons best known to the Delimitation commission and BJP. He cautioned a full scale agitation in case the demand was not entertained.
He further called upon Election commission of India to ensure early restoration of popular govt in J&K in view of total failure of bureaucratic rule. Singh said that within 22 months already over since its constitution, the delimitation commission must commit itself for early completion of the exercise rather than merely flirting with the proposition with new rumours being spread in media and other social platforms every other day.
The delimitation report should be immediately put in public domain. The inexplicable delay has helped bolster the narrative that the delimitation commission and BJP govt are hand in glove in delaying and denying democracy in the erstwhile state of J&K, maintained Singh.
