Grant OBC status to J&K Jats: Ch Manmohan urges govt

KATHUA, Jan 2: All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) President and former Mayor, Chaudhary Manmohan Singh while urging the Central as well as J&K Govt to immediately grant OBC status to the community members thus doing justice with them after having faced discrimination for decades, appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure that the aforesaid status is granted at the earliest.
He reiterated this demand in his address during a meeting of the All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) at Kathua which was presided over by him. A large number of members of Jat community participated in the meeting and highlighted the problems being faced by them.
Addressing the meeting, Ch Manmohan Singh expressed resentment against the J&K and Central Governments for depriving the Jat community members of their due share. He stated that in 11 states, Jats are enjoying the benefits of OBC status while the Jats of J&K continue to be deprived of the same.
He said that earlier Article 370 was cited as the hurdle in conferring OBC status to the Jat Community but now when Articles 370 as well as Article 35A are gone and full authority lies in the hands of the Union Govt why the government is adopting a dilly-dallying attitude on this very significant issue.
Ch Manmohan Singh appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come to the rescue of Jats of Jammu and Kashmir and grant OBC status to them so that they also enjoy the rights at par with the Jats in other eleven states of the nation.
In the meeting, the members of Jat community unanimously accepted the call of the AIJMS President Ch Manmohan Singh to vote and support only such political party and leader in the forthcoming elections which extends support to Jat community in getting their due rights i.e. granting of OBC status to Jats.
Prominent among those who were present during the meeting included Ch Prem Pal Pala President Vijaypur AIJMS, senior leader Ch Rashpal Singh, Sat Paul Choudhary President AIJMS Kathua, Vijay Choudhary Vice President AIJMS Kathua and several others.
