Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 10: National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Western Himalayan Regional Centre (WHRC), Jammu organized two days online training workshop on "Tools and Techniques for Spring Shed Management" under a project study sponsored by National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS). The training workshop was inaugurated online on 6 January by Hamesh Manchanda, Chief Engineer (CE.), Irrigation and Flood Control, Jammu Division. In his inaugural speech Manchanda spoke about the importance of springs in ensuring the water security in the region while mentioning various government initiatives in similar direction viz., Jal Jeevan Mission. Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu in his address as the guest of honour emphasized on the need of spring shed management and rejuvenations in Himalayan regions. Dr. D S Bisht, course coordinator apprised that the training workshop was designed with a view to inculcate knowledge on spring shed management to the stakeholders of Tawi river catchment in Jammu division. In the workshop the participants were exposed to various concepts of spring genesis and types, data collection and analysis, electronic data collection using mobile application, hydro-meteorological instrumentation, water conservation measures, spring vulnerability analysis, geological investigation of springs etc. The workshop was attended by the officials from the office of Chief Conservator of Forests, Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Irrigation and Flood Control department, Ravi-Tawi Irrigation complex, academicians, PhD scholars and master's students from different universities.
