Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 10: The Department of Chemistry, Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu organized a two day International Conference on "Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences'' in collaboration with Cape Comorin Trust, Tamil Nadu. The conference was inaugurated today by Dr. Anju Chadha, Senior Professor, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, who was the chief guest and the keynote speaker on this occasion. While delivering the keynote address, she talked about biocatalysis and the use of enzymes to transform raw material into valuable and useful products. Dr S.P Sarswat, Principal of the College, in his inaugural address stressed for inculcating scientific temper among the students and also encouraged for organizing more events of this type for the benefit of students. Dr Avinash Kumar Gupta, Head Department of Chemistry and Convener of the conference while welcoming the chief guest and other dignitaries attending the conference, presented a brief background for organizing the conference. In today's proceedings, there were two plenary lectures by noted academicians and researchers. In the first plenary lecture, Dr Nazar Hussain from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi talked about the C-H Bond activation in carbohydrates and its utility in total synthesis of many medicinally important natural products. Dr Gurpreet Kour from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia explained electrolytic conversion of Nitrogen to ammonia using single atom alloy in the second plenary lecture. Besides, there were two technical sessions which were chaired by Dr Aijaz Ahmad Dar from the chemistry department of University of Kashmir and Dr Princy Gupta from Central University of Jammu. The proceedings of the conference were anchored by Dr Gurpreet Kour, Organizing Secretary of the conference and the concluding remarks were presented by Dr Puja Nanda while Dr Faheem Rasool presented the formal vote of thanks. |
