HC keeps in abeyance sentence to then Tehsildar in disproportionate case, grants bail | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 10: Vacation judge of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Justice Puneet Gupta today, kept in abeyance the sentence awarded to Janak Singh the then Tehsildar Recovery by the Trial Court. Justice Gupta granted bail and directed him to furnishing of personal bond to tune of Rs. 50,000 on a surety bond of the like amount to the satisfaction of the Registrar Judicial/Joint Registrar (Judicial) of the Court. It is worthwhile to mention here that on December 28, 2021, Special Judge anti-corruption while deciding 13 years old corruption case, awarded 3 Years RI and fine Rs 2 lacs to Janak Singh in disproportionate assets case. The case of the prosecution briefly is that Janak who joined as Patwari in Revenue department in 1966, acquired assets disproportionate to his known and visible sources of income, in the names of himself and his close relatives, by indulging in corrupt practices during his service carrier. The verification revealed that he had constructed a double storey residential house in two kanals land at Shastri Nagar Jammu, established a petrol Pump namely Shankar Filling Station at Greater Kailash Jammu, in the name of his family member. He is found to have resorted to acquisition of these and other movable and immovable property including land etc in the names of himself and his close relations in order to conceal their illicit origin. Present FIR was registered, and investigation done. |
