Gupta calls for advance preparedness to combat Covid third wave | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 11: Urging the administration to learn lessons from the worst experience witnessed during second COVID surge last year, National Conference Provincial President Mr Rattan Lal Gupta today called for upgrading health infrastructure in six of the ten non GMC districts in the Jammu region keeping in view surge in pandemic. In a statement issued from Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here, Mr Rattan Lal Gupta also sought filling up of nearly 1000 vacancies of doctors and 5000 posts of para-medical staff besides permanently absorbing the health care workers appointed on contractual basis, whose three month term ended yesterday. They cannot be let down at this stage, especially as the situation demands active involvement in fighting the pandemic. The Provincial President demanded stocking of medicines, medical gas and other prerequisites to combat the third wave, hoping that the administration will have well equipped and oxygenated bed hospitals in the areas which lack adequate strength of beds in hospitals. For achieving the objective, the services of the DRDO should be requisitioned, as the organisation has gained significant expertise in tackling the situation. In view of the surge, it would be expected from the administration to create necessary infrastructural facilities in place to meet the situation”, Mr Gupta said. He also expressed concern over scarce availability of oxygen especially in far-off places and other areas where the surge could take alarming propositions in the absence of required logistical support. He sought mobilisation of all resources in putting the health sector on rails to instil confidence among the people, who are quite apprehensive, given the second wave experience that almost left everybody in lurch. The Provincial President lauded frontline workers including doctors, para-medics, lab technicians, health and hygiene workers, police, security forces and those engaged in essential services for doing their best within the given resources since the inception of pandemic. He said the efforts of the COVID warriors at the peril of their own and their families’ lives have made a real difference. At the same time, he said measures should be taken for patient satisfaction, as there is a trust deficit with those apprehensive about the virus, feeling let down for want of medical attention. This impression can be diluted only when adequate infrastructural facilities are available for accommodating more and more patients, he maintained. Gupta reiterated the imperative of speeding up the vaccination for combating the virus and urged the administration to concentrate on holding camps at the Panchayat levels and inoculating the precautionary dose to old, sick, infirm and differently-abled persons at their homes to achieve the objective of jabs to all. He also called for enhancing the testing as this along with tracking, tracing and treating is the global protocol to combat the infection. |
