First Omicron case detected in Kashmir, pregnant woman found infected in Uri | | | S TAHIR-UL-HAQ Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 11: First case of Omicron was confirmed on Tuesday in Kashmir Valley as one pregnant woman from Uri area of Baramulla district found positive for the variant. While Jammu and Kashmir today reported 1148 fresh Coronavirus positive cases, 508 cases in Kashmir valley and 640 in Jammu while two persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. It is learnt from health officials that, first case of Omicron was confirmed on Tuesday in Kashmir Valley as one pregnant woman from Uri area of Baramulla district tested positive for the variant. A pregnant lady is from Dhanisayden Uri and her sample was taken on Dec 20, at SDH Uri for Omicron, she was already Covid positive patient, adding as of now she is stable A team of doctors has been rushed to the woman's home and samples of her family members and neighbors will be done, said the official. Meanwhile there are 1148 fresh coronavirus positive cases that were reported today in J&K, among which 640 of the cases were reported from Jammu Division and 508 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 346506. Among others, the fresh cases include some doctors, and security personnel. According to district wise break up, Srinagar reported 256 cases, Baramulla 94, Budgam 59, Pulwama 12, Kupwara 30, Anantnag 18, Bandipora 19, Ganderbal 5, Kulgam 13, Shopian 2, Jammu 301, Udhampur 77, Rajouri 29, Doda 10, Kathua 64, Samba 26, Kishtwar 4, Poonch 45, Ramban 12 and Reasi 71. It is learnt that, there were two deaths, both from Jammu division, due to the virus during the last 24 hours. So far 4546 persons, 2211 in Jammu and 2335 in Kashmir have died due to the virus. In the last 24 hours, 360 patients including 245 from Jammu and 115 from Kashmir recovered. So far 337150 have recovered, leaving an active case tally at 4810 including 2676 in Jammu and 2134 in Kashmir. However it is also learnt from sources that authorities in Bandipora district on Tuesday closed two J&K Bank branches for public dealing after some employees of these branches tested positive for COVID-19. Two J&K Bank branches including TP and Main branch in the main market of the district were closed for public dealing after some employees tested positive for Covid-19. "While contact tracing is on, some employees have been asked to undergo quarantine," sources said while quoting an official. Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar has said that by virtue of the tremendous efforts of health staff besides with a good health infrastructure and with the cooperation of the general public, district Baramulla is fully prepared to combat the arising situation due to Covid here. The DC briefed that 3500 to 4000 RTPC and other rapid tests are being performed at GMC Baramulla on daily basis and the administration is trying utmost to make early detection of the cases so that the virus will not affect others. In view of resurgence in COVID cases in the UT, the District Administration, Kupwara today convened a joint meeting of Officers, Aimah Masajid, Religious leaders , PRIs and other concerned to review the Covid mitigation efforts. The DC Kupwara, Imam Din said that the aim of the meeting is to send a message among the masses about implementation of Covid Appropriate Behavior through religious leaders so that people can be saved from such a deadly virus. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad also held a meeting today with religious leaders, representatives of traders and Transport Associations to discuss various issues in view of adherence of SOPs and other covid-19 mitigation efforts in the district. |
