Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 6: Throwing the norms to the wind, the constructing agency has allowed the use of material not in line with the standards in the construction of a power grid in Kanuiyan of Poonch district, for which around Rs 5 crores have been allocated to the department concerned.
If government is paying huge salary to the Executive Engineer AEE, or JE they should have visited to the site to check the ongoing construction work, but they failed in their line of duty, said locals of Kanuiyan.
They said that the plinth work was not done according to norms. Men on work have filled soil instead of cement and other necessary items and we believe that it was not done according to the rules and regulation of the department concerned. There are various tasks which are closely associated with the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of the electrical energy, but how come it is possible to construct it when the foundation of this grid station was not done according to norms, said locals.
According to them it is the responsibility of the department concerned to oversee the work carried out by the contractors, huge amount has been spent so for on this construction work.
They said that, the total cost of the work that was undertaken was Rs 5.50 crores out of which around Rs 40-50 lakh may have been released to the contractor. The substandard material is used for its construction; it will be a huge to the state exchequer if the work is not done according to the norms laid down by the constructing agency.
