Family stage protest by blocking NH, demand judicial probe | ‘Suspected drug peddler found hanging inside’ | | Harpreet Singh Sethi Early Times Report
Kathua, Feb 6: A 35-year-old suspected drug peddler allegedly hanged himself inside a lockup at a police station in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, triggering protests by his relatives and demands for a judicial probe into the incident and suspension of SHO Hiranagar Yashpaul Sharma and official on duty. Sunil Verma, a resident of Tapyal village, was arrested along with 11.47 grams of heroin during vehicle checking in the Hiranagar area on Thursday and was being questioned at the Hiranagar police station but Sunil Verma was found dead at the police station around 8.10 am and was rushed to Government Medical College hospital Kathua, where he was declared brought dead by Doctor’s of GMC Kathua. Whereas Police official claiming Sunil verma had committed suicide. However, his relatives and resident’s of Hiranager on getting information about his death reached the Hiranagar Police station and later blocked the Jammu-Pathankot highway near Londi Morh Hiranagar for 5 hours and demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident also demanded immediate suspension of the Yashpaul Sharma SHO Hiranagar, and official on duty .They made serious allegations of bribe against the SHO Hiranagar. While talking to Early Times family members alleged Sunil Kumar was beaten by the Hiranagar Police, causing his death. Later Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rahul Yadav and SSP Ramesh Chander Kotwal rushed to the Protests site to ensure The family to strict action will be taken who found guilty. |
