2 girls injured in knife attack, accused arrested | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 11: Police in Srinagar have arrested two accused persons who allegedly barged into a house at Batmaloo and attacked and injured two female inmates. Police arrested one accused on the spot who was identified as Umar Yousuf Wani, a resident of Firdous Abad Batmaloo. While, the other accused had initially managed to escape from the spot. However, after strenuous efforts the other accused person was nabbed within the shortest possible time. He has been identified as Habil Yaseen of Dal Colony, Bemina. Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused persons had trespassed into the residential house with the intention to commit theft and attacked two female inmates resulting in injuries to the both of them. However, the hue and cry raised by the females attracted the locals who played a commendable role in overpowering one of the accused on spot while informing police about the incident. A case under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Batmaloo and further investigation is in progress. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Rakesh Balwal appreciated the role played by the local people in nabbing the accused and assured that Police are committed to act tough against the criminals involved in crime against women. The residents of the Batmaloo area said, this was the second attack on the said family in recent times. They also alleged that the thieves were believed to be the drug peddlers. During the earlier theft attempt, the residents alleged that cash and jewellery were stolen from the house. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment, they said. |
