Where is digital India, Sandi village of Samba without mobile-internet connectivity! | Green meadows of development shown by successive govts | | ST HAQ Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 15: The Digital India mission was launched by the Government of India for offering high-speed internet connections in rural areas, while there are scores of far flung areas especially the border districts of the UT of J&K like Sandi village of Samba district that are without mobile internet connectivity. It is pertinent to mention here, according to sources that, "Samba got 3rd place out of 20 districts for good governance and infrastructure, whereas at the same time, the far flung village like Sandi is still without mobile internet connectivity in the 21st century. Local residents of this far-flung village have expressed resentment against the authorities for failing to provide mobile connectivity to areas other than Sandi. Local residents of this village are asking the present government where is digital India, what sort of the promises were made with them, one of the women from this border village said that the previous governments also made promises with them about the various facilities. Meena Kumari said that, no facility whatsoever was provided to us, but yes we were only shown green meadows to gain their political interests, they have been visiting here for their votes, rest what happens with us is an open book before the government. Now, I am eighteen years old, but in these years I have not seen a single mobile tower in our village, though we get little mobile signal, but hardly we use mobile internet, said a student of class eight. Whereas a group of women said that, besides non availability of mobile internet connectivity we are suffering with other problems, be it electricity, safe drinking water, healthcare or any other basic amenities. They said that, during the past two- three years of pandemic our children has failed to take online classes, they don't know what has been taught to them, now they have forget the name of their school, classes or books, because they have remained in touch with the books, while other remained somehow in touch with their studies due to mobile internet connectivity. The ' Back to Village' programme in Samba yielded no results, as the authorities were directed to provide mobile connectivity to the remaining villages of Smba but those directions were not implemented. It is noteworthy to mention here that the Digital India mission scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is beneficiary schemes for already existing schemes like Make in India, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, Start-up India, and Stand-up India. The residents have sought immediate intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in this matter so that their grievances are redressed at the earliest. |
