Sufarshi Patwari grabs fortunes in Kashmir, admin silent! | Revenue Deptt officials seek PMO’s intervention | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 15: A “sufarshi” patwari in Kashmir has been grabbing fortunes by misusing his position and authority, while the administration looks unwilling to act against the allegedly erring official. Official sources said the Patwari who hails from Uri area of north Kashmir has minted fortunes disproportionate to his known sources of income. “The concerned Patwari has amassed huge assets disproportionate to his income. He has a huge palatial house worth around Rs 2 crore at Bijhama Uri. Besides he has another palatial house at Jatti Road Baramulla worth around Rs 3 crores and a luxury car which costs over Rs 2 million, to list some of his fortunes,” said an official on the condition of anonymity. The sources said the accused also owns a “big chunk” of land in Baramulla area. “He also owns a state of the art gadgets costing around Rs 1 crore,” the sources said. “He also has Benami property wroth crores at Baramulla,” the sources added. It was reliably learnt that the Patwari who is working in Baramulla district at a Tehsil office was appointed around a decade ago. “How can a government employees make such big fortunes? Why is the government not ordering any inquiry?” the sources said. Sources said the Patwari enjoys patronage of some officials who are on deputation in Jammu and Kashmir and have been “shielding him for reasons better known to them.” “How can Jammu and Kashmir government afford to be silent against an employee who is neck deep into corruption unless there is some sort of deal at some level,” said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat on the condition of anonymity. He said what was even shocking was that the Anti Corruption Bureau was equally silent over the issue. “Why is the ACB unable to see the kind of fortunes this Patwari has raised?” the official asked. Despite repeated attempts the Patwari was not available for comments. Meanwhile the employees of Revenue department have appealed the Prime Minister’s Office to get an inquiry ordered into the matter. |
