Is Yes Man culture looming large in Kashmir University?
Director replaced by junior AP, norms thrown to the wind
3/9/2022 12:06:16 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 8: Wide-scale apprehensions of 'Yes Man Culture’ are menacingly looming large in the University of Kashmir with the junior assistant professor made in-charge of the department otherwise required to be helmed by a veteran academician. Sources in the varsity divulged that given the significance of the activity of admissions, the University authorities used to give topmost priority to its administration. Before the creation of the Directorate of Admissions in 2017, this activity used to be administered by the Dean of Academic Affairs who happen to be the Senior Most Professor. Once a separate Directorate of Admissions has been created, the responsibility of its administration was given to one of the senior professors who is known for honesty and integrity. However, shockingly the department has been handed over to an Assistant Professor who by all means is not competent to handle this highly sensitive core activity given his lack of experience. “The multi Dollar Question is why Coordinator has been appointed in place of Director when there is a large number of Senior Professors with great competence, excellent track record of performance and personal integrity? This is being done to accommodate those who are close to the chair or belong to the coterie at a great cost of merit, seniority, and integrity, which in turn is resulting into 'Yes Man Culture'?,” sources said.
It was informed further that instead of appointing a full-fledged Director, an Assistant Professor has been made Coordinator just to accommodate him “The fact is that his appointment as Coordinator Admissions is in violation of the universally accepted criterion of Seniority, Track Record and Personal Integrity. It is being claimed by the administration that since earlier the job of admissions was being done by the Dean Academic Affairs (DAAs), therefore, actually the job of admissions is being given back to the Dean Academic Affairs and the Assistant Professor in question has been made to assist DAAs in the admissions.
This is simply a ploy to deceitfully get this blue-eyed boy adjusted for the reason that when the job of admissions has been handed over to DAAs then why there is no notification that the Directorate of Admissions has been wound-up and the employees of the Directorate are transferred to other sections. Besides, there used to be a practice of having an Admission Committee consisting of again Senior Academicians to assist DAAs. Then how come Coordinator Admissions is issuing Notifications under his signatures (Copy of Notifications Annexed at- H). The other surprising fact is that how come the incumbent VC can wind up the Directorate of Admissions on his own when it has been created by the University Council in its meeting (Copy of UC Resolution Annexed at - I). Is it not ironical that the incumbent VC acting contrary to University Council Resolutions when as per Section 13 (6) the Vice-Chancellor is required to give effect to the orders of the university council resolutions,” informed the sources.
