J&K mourns death of teenage girl, elderly man in grenade blast; Govt celebrates Women’s Day | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 8: Amidst Jammu and Kashmir mourning the death of a teenage girl and an elderly man in a grenade blast at Hari Singh High Street in Amira Kadal, the government is busy celebrating Women’s Bike Rally and holding other events to claim that everything is hunky-dory in the Valley. It’s in place to mention here that ultras had hurled a grenade at a busy flea market at Hari Singh High Street on Sunday, leaving an elderly man and a teenage girl dead, and 24 others wounded. An observer while talking to Early Times said, “Death of two innocent people hasn’t made any difference. The indifferent attitude of the helmsmen towards the families of the deceased is shocking. Someone needs to tell the people who are managing that killings and celebrations don’t go together in any part of the world.” The 19-year old Rafiya Nazir who was killed in the blast had passed class 12 exams with 93% marks recently and wanted to become a doctor but the dreams of the family were shattered after her body arrived at her home on Monday morning. She along with her sister and mother were buying fruits when the assailants hurled the grenade. She was shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment but died due to multiple injuries that she had suffered in the blast. Hundreds of people joined to mourn the tragic death and participated in her last rites. Men and women were seen crying and wailing. “Just one day after she was laid to rest, the government celebrated International Women’s Day amidst fan-fare, pomp and show,” the observer added. Family of an elderly man Mohammad Aslam Makhdoomi from downtown Srinagar too was killed in the blast leaving his family shell shocked. |
