Transforming J&K: Good governance still a distant dream in UT | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 11: Notwithstanding the claims of the J&K government, good governance is still a distant dream because initiatives taken by the administration are confined only to papers and advertisements. Enhancing governance deficit and failure of the bureaucrats to establish connect with common masses has increased alienation of the people. It is all due to the increasing governance deficit that a section of nationalist people of Jammu are forced to think that decisions to abrogate Article 370 and 35-A have not yielded desirable results. After the historic decision of the Union Government on August 5, 2019, the people of J&K in general and the Jammu region, in particular, were hoping that they will get the taste of good governance like other parts of the country. But all their hopes have been dashed due to the attitude of some Babus. During the last one and half years, the situation is going from bad to worse because those at the helm of the affairs are not ready to listen to the grievance of the people. Almost every section of society is on the roads against the arrogant behaviour of a coterie of Babus who are running the entire show in J&K. Instead of realizing the ground situation, the government in its official handout on Friday claimed that the administration has institutionalized a slew of good governance initiatives in the Union Territory. “LG administration has adopted a mantra of zero tolerance against corruption, nepotism, and discrimination against minorities in J&K so that voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard and given due recognition”, the handout stated. |
