J&K Govt fails to utilize funds for border area development | MHA stops new sanction, seeks reasons for slow pace | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 25: Ministry of Home Affairs has not allocated any funds for the past two years for Border Area Development Programme (BADP) as the J&K administration has failed to utilize the funds sanctioned in the past years. According to the details available with Early Times in the year 2018-19 the MHA had released Rs 84 crore for the BADP but only Rs 75 crore were utilized and rest of the money remained unspent. In the year 2019-20 the MHA released Rs 114.37 crore for the BADP but only Rs 31.4 were utilized and 91.2 crore remained unspent. This year MHA has released Rs 16 crore under BADP but only for Ladakh region. The Union Home Ministry has sought an explanation from the J&K Government for its failure to utilize the funds for the development of border areas and a committee has been set up to look into the causes about slow pace of development in the frontier areas. |
