NC-PDP to contest assembly elections jointly | | | Early times Report
Jammu, Mar 26: Taking a lesson from Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the leadership of both the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have initiated an exercise to fight the assembly polls jointly like the District Development Council (DDC) elections. High commands of both parties have directed district-level leadership to start constituting coordination committees of two parties to avoid any confrontation during the assembly elections. Highly placed sources said that during her just-concluded week-long visit in Jammu, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has dropped hints that both the parties have decided to contest elections jointly to counter BJP’s plan to install its first-ever chief minister in J&K. During her week-long tour in Jammu, Mehbooba Mufti avoided any attack on the arch-rival National Conference or Congress. She only focussed on BJP during her public meetings. “Instead of taking a tough stand on seat-sharing, PDP leadership has decided to put the onus on National Conference leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah to ensure justice with all constituents of the Gupkar Alliance”, sources told The Early Times and added that PDP is ready to accept the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah who has vast experience in politics. Sources said that during the recent meeting of the Gupkar Alliance, all constituents have suggested that the experience of DDCs elections should be repeated in the assembly polls also. Important to mention here that Gupkar Declaration had swept the first-ever DDC polls held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. The Gupkar Alliance had won 110 seats. The BJP had bagged 75 seats. |
