LG likely to be ‘summoned’ for meeting on Kashmir
4/5/2022 11:16:54 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 5: Even as Kashmir continues to witness a deadly spike in militant attacks, New Delhi is believed to be upset with the handling of situation by the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, the Early Times learnt from top sources.
The sources said the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Home Affairs in particular, are “upset the way the situation is taking ugly turn” in the valley.
Sources said some top functionaries have held telephonic deliberations with the Raj Bhawan to discuss the evolving situation. Sources said at least two “very important calls” from New Delhi were received by the Raj Bhawan in this regard.
The sources in New Delhi said Lieutenant Governor was likely to be “summoned” to the national capital for direct deliberations on the “unfolding situation” in the coming days. “There has been no dearth of resources (from New Delhi), so why are things taking such a turn needs to be looked into?” said a source privy to the corridors of power in New Delhi.
There has been deadly spike in the attacks. On April 4, a CRPF jawan was killed and his colleague wounded when militants attacked them in Maisuma area in the heart of Srinagar. It was the first major attack in the city center in the last few years, where two-bike borne militants opened fire on the security forces before fleeing from the spot.
The same evening, a Kashmir Pandit was shot at in his native Shopian. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment since.
A day before that on April 3, a truck driver and his conductor, both residents of Pathankote were wounded when shot at in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. The duo was subsequently hospitalized.
While south Kashmir was already in news for militant attacks, the central Kashmir districts of Srinagar and Budgam are facing spike.
In Budgam, on an average, a one person was killed every month in March this year.
Official figures suggest that two jawans and two civilians were killed in separate militancy related incidents between March 10 and 26 alone. This means that on an average a person was killed every week last month.
The summer capital of Srinagar on the other hand witnessed numerous grenade attacks even at busy Amira Kadal.
During the three day visit of the high level delegation from UAE, which concluded on March 22, multiple militant attacks took place in Kashmir. While a policeman was killed in the same summer capital where the delegates were camping, elsewhere at least three separate terror strikes took place.
Even a day after the delegates left, 5 policemen, one CRPF personnel among 7 injured in Rainawari grenade attack on March 23 evening. A day before that on March 22, a policeman was killed in Soura locality of same Srinagar.
Earlier on March 21, a civilian identified as Tajamul Mohi-ud-Din Rather was shot dead by militants near his home at Gotpora Budgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
The same fateful evening gunmen fired upon non-local labour Bisujeet Kumar son of Paras Mandan of Bihar at Gangoo Pulwama, leaving him injured.
Interestingly, ahead of their arrival of the UAE delegation and on the day Union Home Minister Amir Shah had chaired a security meeting in Jammu before leaving back for the national capital. The same fateful evening three militancy related incidents were reported from across Kashmir of March 19.
Three CRPF men and a non- local labourer were injured in three militancy related incidents across Kashmir.
While a non-local carpenter identified as Muhammad Akram son of Ab Salam resident of Bijnor UP was fired upon at Arihal Pulwama, a CRPF Jawan was injured when terror groups lobbed a grenade on CRPF camp of 178Bn.
In another incident, militants lobbed a grenade on CRPF camp of 180Bn at Nowdal Tral in which two CRPF personnel received splinter injuries.
The Raj Bhawan while “Strongly condemning such dastardly terror attacks” has been assuring of befitting reply. “Our security forces will give a befitting reply to perpetrators of despicable attacks.”
