Prices of vegetables skyrocket in holy month of Ramadan | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 10: The prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed in Kashmir in the holy month of Ramadan. Early Times spoke to vegetable vendors and shoppers in Lal Chowk on Sunday. “The vegetables in the Mandi itself have become expensive. If we ask suppliers to give us some concessions, they advise us to look for some other business as goods are reaching a higher rate. Customers fight with us when we tell them the rate.” A customer said, “Vegetables have become very expensive. One kg of lemon costs Rs 250 tomatoes are sold at Rs 50 per kg. During the past few days fuel prices too have increased.” The vegetable vendor said that none of the officials visit the Mandi to check the prices. “The government is not doing anything to check the prices. The government cannot do anything it has surrendered,” said a customer. |
