Jammu Police arrests Jaish militant in Sunjuwan gunfight | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 23: In a major breakthrough, a day after Sunjuwan encounter in which two fidayeens were killed, one CISF ASI attained martyrdom and 11 security personnel suffered injuries, Jammu Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested one Jaish-e-Mohammad militant linked with his handlers across the border. "Jammu Police has got a big success in the Friday's militant attack in Sunjuwan area here and arrested one JeM militant," Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone told reporters in a hurriedly called press conference. Singh said that the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit had entrusted the task of carrying out the attack to one Bilal, a resident of Kokernag, Kashmir. "The team of Special Operation Group and SSP Jammu after hard efforts in less than 24 hours got a major lead into the case and after conducting a technical analysis the Jammu Police arrested one Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Sunjwan area," he said. The ADGP said that the police are also looking for Bilal's brother Asif while his landlord, Iqbal has been taken into custody. "During interrogation so far, Shafiq had spilled the beans and revealed that all the handlers with whom he was in touch across the border, they used to talk in Pashto language, which indicates that the attack was executed by the militants living close to the Afghanistan border," he said. Singh added that Shafiq further disclosed that he was in contact with one Veer, the Jaish-e-Mohammad Commander sitting in Pakistan and he directed him to shift both the terrorists involved in the attack to some vital installation of the security force to carry out a a major attack. Shafiq also said that that Bilal Ahmed of Kokernag, Kashmir, was also sent to Jammu on April 20 by the Jaish-e-Mohammed top commanders to carry out the attack, he said adding that Shafiq has not yet confessed that he had gone to Samba from where he picked up both the terrorists. "He has confessed during interrogation that he reached Sunjawan the next day around 1:30 pm and told the investigating team that he used to use Telegram to get in touch with his handler in Pakistan for which he had created an ID in the name of 'Pagal Jamal'." Singh said that Shafiq has also confessed that the mobile phones he used to contact militants in Pakistan were handed over to the militants involved in the attack, which were later destroyed. "How the militants reached Jammu is a matter of investigation?," he said and added that Shafiq is in police custody while a manhunt is on to arrest Bilal and Asif. |
