Pak Won’t Change | | | The change of guard in Pakistan has not made the neighbouring country leave its obsession with Kashmir. New Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, after assuming the charge, spoke about settling all the disputes, including Kashmir. His assertion was a clear indication that Pakistan will continue with its policy of supporting terrorists and terrorism. After the Delimitation Panel submitted its final report to redraw the assembly and parliamentary constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan reacted sharply and termed it as a move to disempower the people of J&K. The Delimitation Commission in its report recommended 43 Assembly seats for Jammu division and 47 seats for the Kashmir region. The Commission also recommended giving representation to Kashmiri migrants and displaced persons from ‘Pakistan Occupied J&K’ in the Assembly. The developments that have taken place during the past two and a half years have proven it beyond doubt that Pakistan would not stop interfering in the internal matters of India and will keep on sending in terrorists to create disturbance. Two Pakistani ultras getting killed in an encounter with the security forces at Sunjwan in Jammu just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Pali village in Samba district was an attempt to disrupt PM’s Jammu visit. The security agencies have already sounded an alert about possibilities about terrorists carrying out drone attacks on Amarnath Yatra. In a nutshell Pakistan is refusing to mend its ways and wants to keep the conflict alive. During the past few years, Pakistan sponsored terrorists have not been able to carry out any major attack in India due to New Delhi sending a clear message that every attack will be avenged. The surgical strikes after a suicide attack on an Army camp in Uri and Balakote airstrike after Pulwama attack were clear indications that India won’t tolerate terrorism and it can cross the Line of Control to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The success of security forces has pushed the militants on a back foot. They are choosing soft targets to avoid retaliation and to keep the pot boiling. Pakistan hasn’t changed and possibilities about it changing in any way look bleak. Change in dispensation hasn’t made any difference. Pakistan has to change its policy till it continues to follow the same old tactics it cannot be relied upon. |
