SRINAGAR, May 19: A local court here has directed the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council to take steps to constitute adhoc committee by the time elections are held for electing various office bearers of Jammu & Kashmir Football Association (JKFA).
4th Additional District Judge Srinagar, Naushad Ahmed Khan in the order said that upon consideration of contention raised and arguments advanced the application seeking extension of time is allowed by providing four weeks extension to J&K Sports Council for conduct of elections which would commence from the date of passing of this order.
“It is further provided that in the face of the tenure of present office bearers having come to an end on 12th of May 2002, therefore Sports Council would take steps to constitute adhoc committee which would provide necessary assistance to J&K Sports Council to facilitate conduct of elections. The application is accordingly disposed off and consigned to records,” the judge observed.
This order was issued on an application filed by J&K Sports Council seeking extension in time for conducting elections to office bearers of JK Football Association as provided in the final order dated March 28, 2022. The order was passed with the consent of the parties, as a consequence thereof notification for conduct of elections on May 8, 2022.
Justice (Retired) Muzaffar Jan was nominated as election commissioner but the counsel representing J&K Sports Council contended that due to non-furnishing of the details of voter lists at district level and other documents well in time. The counsel contended that some more time would be consumed in publicizing the voter list and inviting objections from all concerned, hence extension in time is being sought.
The Sports Council has further contended that tenure of the present office bearers has come to an end on May 12 and they cease to hold any position as office bearers. The application was moved under section 151 CPC on behalf of Secretary J&K Sports Council as party defendant vide order 14-8-2021 for seeking extension of time in conducting elections of J&K Football Association.
