BMS demands revision in minimum wages for private sector

JAMMU, May 19: A deputation of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh JK UT led by Harbans Choudhary working President BMS along with Ashok Choudhary organising Secretary BMS and Gar Din President Contract workers union met with the Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment Smt.Sarita Chohan at civil secretariat Jammu and submitted her memorandum regarding revision of minimum wages under Minimum wages Act 1948 as almost five years has been passed and poor workers of private sector are being deprived as no any revision has been made whereas on the other hand Govt has revised wages of daily wagers but workers working in the factories are being ignored and further demanded that minimum wages should be linked with the Varyable Dearness Allowance VDA as applicable under central minimum wages it is pertinent to mention here that from the last more than 20 years No any revision has been made and just inflation is covered up too after 4-5 years and no basic increase has been made in minimum wages so for
BMS has also demanded that in factories 12 hours duties are being taken but no over time is given under law and very poor coverage of PF and ESI and workers are being exploited and labour department failed to protect the statuary provisions under labour laws delegation also demanded that the Posts of Assistant Labour commissioners Jammu and Samba are laying vacant from the past 20 days as previous ALC,s has been transferred and poor workers are suffering and requested for deputing the officials without any delay
The Commissioner secretary labour gave patient hearing and assured that very soon legal process will be initiated for making revision in minimum wages as per the minimum wages Act said in a press release S/d Harbans Choudhary Working President BMS.
