Early Times Report SAMBA, June 3: To create awareness among the farming community about plantation of fruit crops during the ensuing rainy season, Department of Horticulture Samba today conducted a farmers' awareness programme under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav here at village Mandal of block Purmandal. The programme was chaired by Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak. Around 100 farmers, including women farmers besides DDC Member Purmandal, Sarpanches Katwalta, Purmandal, Khara Madana Panchayats & panches participated in the Camp. Addressing the farmers, the Director said that the department was organizing programmes to promote awareness among the farming community regarding different schemes of the department. He urged farmers to adopt integrated farming in their fields and avail the benefits on different components like Bore Well, water harvesting tanks, Drip irrigation, Custom Hiring Centres, vermicompost units, protected cultivation, tools & implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.Further, he appealed to the PRI members and field functionaries to form Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO's), associate with the Horticulture department and assured that the department will help them in setting up Micro Food Processing units, which can play an important role in enhancing the family income. Earlier, the Chief Horticulture Officer Mukesh Sharma welcomed the Director Horticulture Jammu and briefed him about the ongoing works in the district. He also urged farmers to avail benefits of different schemes of the department. DDC Member, Avtar Singh, while speaking on the occasion hailed the efforts of the department for organizing such an awareness programme in the remotest area of the Samba district. He requested to organize more such programmes in the adjoining Panchayats.Later, the Director Horticulture distributed fruit plants among the participants in presence of Chief Horticulture Officer Samba, DDC member, HDOs and sarpanches / panches of the area. |
