NSS Units GDC Kathua Celebrates World Bicycle day

JAMMU, June 3: A bicycle rally was organized to Celebrate World Bicycle day by NSS Units of GDC Kathua. The rally started from GDC kathua. Prof Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia Principal Gdc Kathua flagged off the rally in the presence of the other staff members. Rally by passing through Shaheedi Chowk , Captain Sunil Chowk , Dream park and in the end culminated at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park near DC Office Kathua. The motive behind to organise this rally was to highlighting the advantages of cycling. Principal Prof Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia addressed the volunteers and cyclists before flagged off the rally.In his address he elaborated the history of Bicycle. He told us Bicycle was one of the oldest means of transport and a bicycle continues to be in use throughout the globe.The simple yet efficient machine helps one to indulge in physical activities in the easiest and most convenient way. From kids to the elderly, cycling offers fun, as well as health benefits for all.NSS PO Prof Manmohan Singh also addressed the volunteers.He said that pollution is a big threat to the environment. Fuel consumption while using vehicles for covering short distances can be avoided by using Bicycle as a means of transport. It also reduces our extra expenditure on fuel. Rest it has been said that health is wealth and this is right way to adopt Bicycle as a means of transport and accumulate this wealth of health. Highlighting the advantages of cycling and promoting the use of bicycles, June 3rd is observed as World Bicycle Day. The day is aimed at making people more active through simple activities, including cycling. The World Health Organization also emphasizes that cycling proves to be an effective recommended activity.
The event was organised under the guidance of Principal Prof Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia and supervised by NSS Program officers Prof Manmohan Singh, Prof Neha Bandral and Dr Suresh Kumar Sharma. Senior faculty members Prof Raj Kiran Sharma, Prof Romila Guleria,Prof Seema Malpotra ,Prof Jaswinder Singh, Prof Rakesh Jasrotia, Prof Ritu Bhagat also congratulated NSS volunteers for organizing this event.
