Lal Bazar shootout: New Delhi for ‘internal inquiry’ to rule out security lapse | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: Taking serious note of the deadly terror strike on Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel in Lal Bazar locality of Srinagar on June 12 that left a cop dead, New Delhi has sought “internal inquiry” from J&K government to rule out any apprehended “security lapse.” Sources said Union government has raised questions as to why only three cops were on naka duty and that if the security protocol was followed for their safety when the Jammu and Kashmir continues to be on high alert in the sake of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that questions are being raised over the security arrangements in place and if there was a lapse on the part of the concerned. “How come were only three cops deployed at a sensitive location and why they were not in a bulletproof vehicle… There are questions which need clarification because the attack has taken place when entire Jammu and Kashmir has been already on high alert in the wake of Yatra,” said an official. It was reliably learnt that some senior officials in New Delhi have already picked up the issue with the J&K Police. “The main objection of raising questions is to ensure that watertight security arrangements are in place because there’s no space for any lapse nor we want to lose any innocent life,” said the official. The dreaded Islamic State has already claimed responsibility for the attack by having released a video of the same. The investigation into the Lal Bazar terror incident is underway. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar has said that police were scanning CCTV footage to ascertain those involved in the attack. He said that they will be identified and neutralised soon. Pertinently, three police personnel were injured in the terror attack in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on the third day of Eid Ul Azha and one among them later succumbed to his grievous injuries. As per the ADPG, the police naka that came under attack “was a small one which was regulating traffic as there was a huge rush of people due to Eid celebrations.” |
