Gujarat Police takes custody of ‘conman’ | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 6: Gujarat Police on Thursday took the custody of alleged conman Kiran Patel to probe a case of fraud registered. Patel, who took the security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir for a ride by impersonating as an Additional Director for strategy and campaigns in the Prime Minister's Office, was arrested by J&K police on March 3 and was lodged in Srinagar central jail. The conman was handed over to a Gujarat police team today on the direction of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar. An application was moved in the court by an Inspector rank officer of Crime Branch of Gujarat police seeking Patel's custody to probe a graft case registered in Police Station Ahmedabad city. The CJM allowed the change of custody. After the court order, a team of Gujarat police took Patel's custody from jail authorities. Patel was arrested by J&K Police on March 3 from Srinagar's luxurious hotel. Initially his arrest was kept under wraps for over a week. J&K Police registered a case against Patel for cheating, forgery and impersonation. The investigation in the case is underway During his stay in Kashmir Patel also held a series of meetings with J&K officials during his two visits to Srinagar earlier this year. After questions were raised as to how Patel managed to hoodwink the Jammu & Kashmir police and administration by introducing himself as a PMO official, the J&K government ordered a high level inquiry to look for "lapses". The probe is being conducted by Kashmir's Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri. There are at least three FIRs registered against Patel in Gujarat for fraud and cheating since 2017. In one of the FIRs in 2017 alleges that Patel had bragged about his "connections with the PMO." |
