Jammu, Apr 6: Conspiously being absent from the ongoing protest of the party against policies of the Union Government, some Congress, who had earlier deserted the party and rejoined, are in touch with some BJP leaders to make entry into the Saffron Party. Highly placed sources said that some ex-loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had resigned from the party and later rejoined the party ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, are trying to join BJP for a better political career. “As of now, BJP leadership has not shown much interest in taking these leaders in the party who have backstabbed their political mentor Ghulam Nabi Azad”, sources said and added that former loyalists of Azad wanted assurance of party mandates before joining BJP. Sources said that BJP leadership has made it clear that these leaders are ready to join the party but without much fanfare and publicity. “BJP will take these leaders in the party as routine joining and they will not promise party mandate in the next assembly elections”, sources said. As reported earlier, some former loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad, who have rejoined the Congress party, have been sidelined in the party. The incumbent Congress leadership is not ready to give previous positions to these “traitors” who first “ditched” the party for Ghulam Nabi Azad and later “backstabbed” Azad also. Nearly twenty loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad, including two political stalwarts who were expelled from the Democratic Azad Party (DAP), rejoined the Congress party in New Delhi on January 6, 2023. Former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand along with former J&K Congress chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, ex-MLA Thakur Balwan Singh, and others rejoined the Congress party. The leaders had resigned in support of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who later floated his own party—the Democratic Azad Party, now renamed Democratic Progressive Azad Party. |
