Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 14: Even as Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has asked people to register all pet dogs, most of the people have yet not registered their dogs.
Issue of registration again came into limelight when JMC confiscated a pet dog following a complaint of attack. The dog which attacked the complainer was not registered with the JMC.
JMC has already asked all people to all their pet dogs with a registration fee of Rs 500. Those who failed to register their pets within the stipulated time can challan a fine or impound.
As per a notification issued by the JMC, like vehicles, pet dogs within the jurisdiction of the civic body have to wear a registration number on their necks.
The notification issued by JMC appealed dog lovers to register their pets in the scheduled time otherwise their owners will have to pay a fine or will be booked under Section 304 of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2002.
The registration fee is Rs 500 and the renewal fee would be Rs 300 and registration will be valid for one year.
Process to register pet dogs was started way back in the year 2011 but it could be materialized due to poor response of the people. Another attempt was made in the year 2016 but of no avail.
The authorities have now attached Section 304 to make it mandatory for the owners to register dogs. Registration forms are being provided free of cost, which are available at JMC’s Veterinary wing and are also made available to the pet clinics within the municipal jurisdiction.
Jammu Municipal Corporation on Wednesday confiscated a pet dog (Pit Bull) following a complaint of attack.
The complaint was received in the Veterinary section of JMC regarding attack by the dog to the neighbour and consequently a team of JMC headed by senior officials conducted a site visit and seized the dog.
Also a penalty of Rs 3000 has been imposed on the dog owner for not registering their dog with JMC.
As it is mandatory for the pet dog owners and keepers to register their pet dog with JMC in accordance with the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2023 and Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 and for that JMC has also issued public notice for the awareness of the general public.
