GDC Hiranagar celebrates World Environment Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 6: The Department of Environmental Science, in collaboration with the Eco-Club of Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar, organized a symposium on the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" to commemorate World Environment Day. The event, held under the aegis of G20, saw the active participation of 15 students who shared their views through oral presentations and poems. The students highlighted various challenges faced by the current generation, such as the global generation of plastic waste and the low recycling rates, with less than 10 percent being recycled. They also emphasized the prevalence of tiny plastic fibers in the environment and the common plastic items contributing to pollution, such as food wrappers, plastic bottles, and grocery bags. Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of the college, graced the occasion as the chief guest and commended the efforts of the students and faculty members. She urged everyone to reduce the use of single-use plastics and adopt more environmentally friendly alternatives. Dr. Khanna also encouraged students to embrace the concept of "Zero Waste" and incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives. Prof. Neha Bhagat, Head of the Environmental Sciences department and convenor of the Eco-Club, explained that the objective of the event was to raise awareness among young minds about their responsibility towards the environment and how individual actions can make a positive impact. |
