Raman Suri questions 1987 polls robbers, Omar Abdullah's actions | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 6: Raman Suri, an executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir, raised questions regarding the individuals responsible for rigging the 1987 assembly elections in the state. Suri also questioned the political decisions made by Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the National Conference (NC), highlighting the party's boycott of the 1996 General Elections and the 2018 Panchayat Polls. Suri emphasized that if Omar Abdullah is eager to participate in elections and assert the right to vote, he should explain why, during his tenure as Chief Minister in alliance with Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, he allowed elected urban local bodies to lapse without holding elections. Additionally, Suri mentioned the accusations made by Sajjad Lone of the People's Conference, a member of the People's Alliance Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), who referred to the NC as the "Robbers of 1987 assembly elections." Rather than focusing on the jurisdiction of the Election Commission, Suri urged Omar Abdullah to address the lack of peace during his or his father's tenure as chief minister, the involvement of young boys in stone-pelting incidents, and the reasons behind the relative calm in today's Kashmir. Suri also questioned the democratic nature of the NC and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), pointing out their tendency to have only Abdullahs or Muftis as party chiefs, thereby limiting the opportunities for others to lead.
