DC launches intensified diarrhoea control fortnight at PHC Sheeri | | | Early Times Report BARAMULLA, June 6: Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, inaugurated the Intensive Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) campaign at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sheeri. The event was organized by District Health Society Baramulla. Dr Syed Sehrish highlighted the causes of diarrhoea in children and emphasized the importance of preventive measures and the preparation and use of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) at home. The main objective of the IDCF 2023 is to achieve zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhoea, said the DC. She praised the efforts of ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists) and AWWs (Anganwadi Workers) in reducing the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Despite significant efforts by the health department, diarrhoeal diseases remain a leading cause of death in children under five years old, Dr Sehrish acknowledged. She reaffirmed the District Administration's commitment to improving healthcare services for the welfare of the public and called for more awareness campaigns to minimize child mortality due to diarrhoea. Dr Naseer, Block Medical Officer of Block Sheeri, delivered a keynote address on childhood diarrhoea and its impact on socio-economically disadvantaged families. The IDCF, organized by the District Health Society Baramulla, will take place from June 6th to June 17th, 2023. Various activities such as handwashing demonstrations, outreach programs, and distribution of ORS and Zinc Tablets were conducted across medical blocks in the district as part of the campaign. In addition, Dr Sehrish inaugurated the Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day, a Mega Camp organized by the District Health Society Baramulla in collaboration with Piramil Foundation at the Block Headquarters in Sheeri. The camp serves as a platform for providing primary healthcare services to the community. |
