GNDU wins Punjab state annual environment award | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 6: Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) was honored with the prestigious Shaheed Bhagat Singh Punjab State Annual Environment Award, 2023, for its remarkable efforts and significant contributions to improving and protecting the environment of the state. The Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, presented the award to GNDU. The university, under the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, has implemented several initiatives to promote environmental sustainability on its campus. One of the notable initiatives is the “Zero Waste-Green Campus” project, which effectively manages waste through segregation and recycling at the source. The university has also encouraged sustainable transportation methods such as cycling and the use of e-buses, developed pedestrian-friendly pathways, limited automobile access, and created a lush green campus with diverse flora. These efforts have earned GNDU recognition as a District Green Mentor by the Government of Punjab and as a Water Champion by the Center for Science and Environment in New Delhi. Guru Nanak Dev University has not only excelled in environmental conservation but has also emerged as a leading institution nationally in academics, research, and sports. The university holds the highest accreditation of NAAC (A++ Grade) and has received the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy in Sports a remarkable 24 times. In the recently announced NIRF 2023 rankings, GNDU was the only public university from the state to be listed among the top 50 universities in the country. With exceptional achievements in various domains, Guru Nanak Dev University continues to shine as a beacon of excellence in academia, research, sports, and environmental stewardship. |
