After making Jammu students run from one city to another, Education Deptt renders CUET irrelevant | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: After making students run from one city to another to appear in Common University Entrance Test (CUET) the Education Department on Tuesday announced that the students who missed the exam can take admission in any college. A parent, who had taken his daughter from Jammu to Punjab to appear in the CUET, said, “I had to spend Rs 10,000 on boarding and travelling expenses. Now, the government has announced that students can take admissions in the colleges of their own choice.” He said, “Hundreds of parents like me accompanied their children from Jammu to other cities and paid through their nose to ensure that their wards appear in the CUET.” Pertinently, the CUET centers for students from Jammu region were set in different cities in Punjab. However, the CUET centres students from Kashmir region were either set up in the Valley or in Jammu. The CUET, which was previously considered a crucial test for students aspiring to gain admission to esteemed universities, has now been rendered irrelevant. Prior to the government’s decision, class 12 students had been frantically preparing for the CUET, considering it the primary gateway to their desired colleges and universities. However, the sudden change in policy has once again shifted the focus back on merit. And it has raised a pertinent question if the admissions in colleges had to be given directly then why was CUET held. But there is a silver lining too many class 12 students who were disheartened by the challenges they faced in attempting to appear for the CUET are now hopeful about securing admissions in their preferred colleges directly. |
