Jammu University gears up for Grand Foundation Day celebration | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 4: The University of Jammu, a beacon of academic excellence, held a Curtain Raiser Press Conference today, ahead of its much-anticipated Foundation Day celebration on September 5, 2023. At the press conference, Prof. Umesh Rai, the Vice Chancellor of the University, shared insights into the significance of the Foundation Day and the remarkable achievements of the institution over the past year. Foundation Day serves as a unifying occasion, bringing together students, scholars, staff, alumni, teachers, officers, and the local community to reflect on their collective contributions and efforts. It also provides a platform to showcase the university's accomplishments in the preceding year. Prof. Rai emphasized the importance of this event as a moment to acknowledge the University's growth and development. The distinguished guest list for the Foundation Day celebration includes Sh. Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT and Chancellor of the University of Jammu, who will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sh. Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT, will be the Guest of Honour. Prof. Rai proudly noted that the University's recent designation as the nodal institution for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a testament to its academic leadership. He highlighted the University's innovative "Design Your Degree" program, lauded during the Akhil Bhartiya Siksha Samagam-2023, as aligned with the spirit of NEP-2020. In addition, the University of Jammu is taking the lead in an exceptional project called "College on Wheels" or "JK Gyanodaya." This initiative will see approximately 800 students and 100 faculty members from various J&K universities embarking on a journey across India, promoting experiential learning and cultural exchange. One remarkable development set to be unveiled on Foundation Day is the inauguration of the University's Community Radio, a first in J&K's history. This radio station will serve as a platform for diverse voices within the University, fostering the exchange of ideas and encouraging participation in the nation's integrated development efforts. Prof. Rajni Kant, Dean of Research Studies, expressed that Foundation Day allows the University to honor its rich history and the contributions of its dedicated employees. Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director of Distance and Online Education, announced the launch of online M.Com and M.A. (English) courses, making the University of Jammu the first in the UT of J&K to offer such programs. This initiative aims to extend educational opportunities to remote regions of the area, transforming the landscape of distance learning. The Business School is also breaking new ground with the introduction of a two-year Executive MBA program in blended mode, a first in the UT of J&K, according to Prof. Rohmetra. Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean of Planning, shed light on various initiatives led by the University under Prof. Umesh Rai's visionary leadership. Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar of the University, shared his nostalgia for the University's remarkable 54-year journey. The press conference was conducted by Dr. Vinay Thussoo, Incharge of Media, and the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Garima Gupta, Convener of the Media and Publicity Committee.
