Bukhari, Sajad focus on native North Kashmir
9/4/2023 11:15:35 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 4: Even as Apni Party President, Altaf Bukhari and his Peoples Conference counterpart, Sajad Lone are natives of north Kashmir, both the leaders have been spending more and time in the frontier region ahead of the municipal and other polls.
While Altaf Bukhari and his colleagues camped in north Kashmir districts including frontier Uri for a days together launching mega political rallies, Sajad Lone has been focusing mainly on his native Kupwara.
From Sopore to Uri, Bukhari spend days visiting areas of north Kashmir. Lone on the other hand has been mainly focused on Kupwara, where his PC has recently dissolved the body.
Sources said being natives of north Kashmir both the leaders look ahead to attract more and more support for the upcoming polls including the Urban Local Body and the Panchayat to be followed by the Parliament elections.
Observers said what brings the two parties into competition is their prospective performance in the polls. Interestingly while the PC and Apni Party have maintained distance from the opposition’s INDIA alliance, both are not averse towards the Bharatiya Janta Party led government at the center. “And hence both have a competition to prove their base on the ground as to who of the two is the better ally,” said a political observer.
Sources said both the parties look ahead to win at least the north Kashmir in the Parliament elections scheduled for 2024.
“Winning at least one seat is crucial for them and here is where they bank on their native north Kashmir the most,” said an analyst.
What is most interesting is that while PC speaks against NC, PDP and other parties and the Apni Party does almost the same, the PC and Apni Party avoid blame game against each other.
“As new comers into politics as against the other experienced faces both have similar stakes and hence similar ambitions,” said the observer.
Despite repeated attempts the said leaders or their party spokespersons couldn’t be contacted for comments.
