Govt College for Women Bhagwati Nagar promotes drug awareness through slogan writing competition
9/4/2023 9:59:44 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 4: In a bid to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, the Department of Punjabi at Govt. College for Women Bhagwati Nagar organized a thought-provoking Slogan Writing Competition on September 4, 2023. This event, held within the college premises, was conducted under the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" (Drug-Free India Campaign) and aimed to raise awareness about the devastating effects of substance abuse.
Prof. Parwinder Kaur, the driving force behind the event and the convener of "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan," spearheaded the initiative with the wholehearted support of the college's esteemed Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol.
Drug addiction, characterized by the harmful compulsion to consume substances with dire consequences for users, was the focal point of this competition. Approximately 20 students from the college passionately participated in the event, demonstrating their commitment to the cause.
Dr. Mosmi Raina, from the Department of Environmental Sciences, and Prof. Nisha Bhagat, from the Department of Sociology, played crucial roles as judges, evaluating the slogans on their creativity and impact. The competition showcased the talent of the students, and the results were as follows:
Gurleen Kour clinched the first prize.
Sukriti Shashoo secured the second prize.
Divya Bhat claimed the third prize.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol emphasized that psychoactive drugs, when ingested, significantly alter mental processes such as perception, consciousness, mood, and emotions. These substances can hijack the brain's normal functioning, leading to dependence, health issues, and even permanent damage. Dr. Abrol urged everyone to stay away from these harmful substances and make informed choices.
This initiative by Govt. College for Women Bhagwati Nagar serves as a significant step in the ongoing battle against drug abuse, aligning with the national objective of creating a drug-free India. Through such awareness campaigns, educational institutions play a pivotal role in nurturing a healthier and drug-resistant society.
