Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 4: The Shikshit Bharat Committee of Government SPMR College of Commerce, in collaboration with Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, organized an enlightening essay writing competition on the theme "IMPLICATION OF GANDHIAN THOUGHTS IN TODAY'S WORLD." This event, which aimed to instill the teachings and values of Mahatma Gandhi in the hearts of students, witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 25 students.
Dr. Surinder Kumar, the Principal of the college, lauded the committee's efforts in organizing such valuable competitions that contribute to shaping the character and beliefs of the students. He stressed the importance of students embracing Gandhi Ji's principles, especially in a world marked by conflict, violence, and terrorism. Dr. Kumar emphasized the relevance of Gandhian philosophy, which advocates non-violence, Satyagraha (truth force), and Sarvodaya (upliftment of all), in the contemporary world. He highlighted the core value of truth, which Gandhi Ji held in high regard throughout his life.
Prof. Deepshikha Sharma added to the discourse by underlining Gandhi Ji's unwavering commitment to a set of principles and values. These included his faith in the power of truth, his advocacy for educational reform, decentralization of democracy, and the empowerment of women. Prof. Sharma stressed the need for making intelligent and practical choices in advocating for peace through non-violent means.
The competition was evaluated by a panel of judges, comprising Prof. Reeta Meenia and Dr. Deepak Pathania. The winners of the competition were:
Adil Nazir Qureshi (Semester 3rd) - First Prize
Suhani Gupta (Semester 3rd) - Second Prize
Pranav Verma (Semester 3rd) - Third Prize
The event was graced by the presence of other esteemed faculty members, including Prof. Barbara Koul, Dr. Monika Malhotra, Dr. Nazia Rasool, and Malik Aijaz.
The entire program was expertly coordinated and managed by Prof. Deepshikha Sharma and Prof. Rajni Bala.
Government SPMR College of Commerce continues to foster values, promote critical thinking, and honor the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi through such enriching activities, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing responsible and conscientious citizens for a brighter future.
