Privatization of Railway station parking threatens taxi business, says Congress leader Tony | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: Taranjit Singh Tony, a Congress leader and DDC Member from Suchetgarh, has voiced his strong support for taxi operators working at Jammu Railway Station. He criticized the government’s decision to privatize the station’s parking facilities, arguing that such a move would severely impact the local taxi business. During a visit to the taxi drivers at Jammu Railway Station, Tony expressed his dismay at the government’s unilateral decision to privatize the parking area without consulting the stakeholders. He emphasized that taxi operators operating from Jammu Railway Station would face a significant setback if their base was taken away to benefit private contractors for a mere financial gain. Tony asserted that the government should not take such a one-sided step that would render hundreds of taxi operators helpless. Tony urged the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory, Manoj Sinha, to intervene in the matter and safeguard the future of the affected taxi operators. He highlighted the crucial role played by these operators in the tourism sector of Jammu and Kashmir, as they provide reliable services to devotees visiting Mata Vaishno Devi and Baba Barfani throughout the year, maintaining the highest professional standards. He stated, “The decision to privatize the parking facilities is tantamount to harassment for taxi operators who have suddenly become vulnerable due to the government’s ill-conceived decision.” Tony called on the government to reconsider its decision, which he believes is arbitrary and dictatorial in nature. |
