Sumit Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 8: The Government of India's initiative 'Jan Aushadhi' scheme which was launched all over India with an aim to provide relief to people of Jammu and Kashmir has run into rough weather due to various reasons. Under the scheme quality generic medicines are made available for all at affordable prices. In J&K State, Red Cross Society has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the scheme with the support of the State government under a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding between the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector undertakings of India (BPPI), the Health Department and Red Cross Society. The availability of generic drugs manufactured by the Central and State PSUs which was supposed to contribute significantly towards tackling the problem of the rapid increase in the prices of drugs, injectable and other material required for patients. The Jan Aushadhi stores which should have 261 medicines is running with the less than 64 medicines in Jammu and Kashmir. The worst hit is SMGS hospital where even the common medicines including Citragen, Levocitragen, Loratadin ,Mometasone ointment, Suframicin ointment, Clotramazole , Flucolazone ointment, Ketocolzone, Azithromicine etc. are missing ,thus leaving the patients in lurch. Meanwhile, When contacted SMGS Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said that he has sought lists of required medicines from HoDs of four departments including Pediatric , Gynae , ENT and Dermatology to take up the matter with the concerned authorities. Roma Wani, General Secretary Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) J&K when contacted admitted that there is shortage of medicines in the Jan Aushadi stores, adding, grievances in this connection have been brought into the notice of the Parliamentary Committee and IRCS has demanded opening of the Ware House in the J&K state to store these drugs. Pertinently, besides GMC and SMGS hospital four other stores are functioning at Doda, Udhampur and Reasi districts. While Jan Aushadi stores are functioning in Leh, Kargil, Anantnag and Pulwama in the Kashmir division. |
